Joe Koy’s Lame Joke About Taylor Swift Garners Stern Glare From Songstress
During the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, host Jo Koy made a joke about Taylor Swift, 34, and the NFL in his monologue. He said, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” and continued, “I swear, there’s just more to go to.”
Swift did not seem amused by his remark and showed no emotion when the camera showed her reaction. She just drank from her glass and looked ahead, ignoring his comment about her and Travis Kelce’s relationship. Koy, 52, later spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the joke and Swift’s reaction. He said, “Aww man. It was cute! It was cute!” He added, “I was just saying — it’s less cutaways. That’s all!”
The comedian’s joke was about the increased interest in Swift and Kelce’s relationship, which coincided with the rise in NFL ratings since the singer started supporting the Kansas City Chiefs tight end in-person. The league has welcomed the new fans, using Swift’s music to promote Chiefs games and changing their X bio to mention the Grammy winner. Commissioner Roger Goodell also endorsed the relationship, saying on CBS Mornings that it was “great” and that “it has connected more fans of Taylor’s and more fans of the NFL in some ways.” He said: "I think it’s great for the league to have that kind of attention. So, we welcome it.” Swift also expressed her view on the issue. She said in her TIME Person of the Year interview, “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” and explained: “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the-camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
