Kill Order Issued for Witnesses in Tupac Shakur Murder Trial, Prosecutors Say

Prosecutors say that a kill order has been issued for witnesses in the case of the man accused of murdering Tupac Shakur, the famed rapper who died in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas 27 years ago. The man, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, is set to face trial in June 2024, but prosecutors allege that his relatives have received a list of witnesses and a “green light” to kill them. They say that this order was revealed in a phone conversation between Davis and his son on October 9, which prompted one witness to move to a different location. In a court document, prosecutors Marc DiGiacomo and Binu Palal stated that there were “credible threats to witnesses” that showed that Davis “poses a danger to the community”.

However, the document does not mention any evidence of Davis telling anyone to hurt anyone or of anyone involved in the case being harmed. The prosecutors still insist that Davis should stay in jail until his trial starts.

Davis’ attorney, Robert Arroyo, disputed the allegations and challenged the supposed phone call between Davis and his son, saying that no witnesses were named or “let alone threatened”.

His lawyers also claimed that the 60-year-old was not a threat and would not run away from the trial if released from jail, where they say he is not getting adequate medical care after being diagnosed with cancer. Davis denied the charge of open murder with use of a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement and said that his previous statements about the shooting were just “entertainment”.

Davis, who is the only living suspect in the case, is not facing the death penalty from the prosecutors. But he could spend the rest of his life in prison if found guilty.
