Tom Petty’s ‘Love Is a Long Road’ Sets the Tone for ‘Grand Theft Auto VI

Following an internet leak, Rockstar Games unveiled the inaugural trailer for the eagerly awaited sixth edition of the GTA series on Monday, featuring Tom Petty’s 1989 song “Love Is a Long Road” as the backdrop for the journey. This track, from his Full Moon Fever album, reached No. 7 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart that same year.

The trailer, which lasts a minute and a half, presents the main characters Lucia and Jason, along with their Bonnie and Clyde-esque romance in the game’s iconic Miami-like Vice City. Lucia, the series’ first female lead, navigates through beaches and swamps as scenes of individuals racing cars on highways, operating speedboats, and riding dirt bikes in traffic are shown.

“Grand Theft Auto VI” is scheduled to launch in 2025, a dozen years after its predecessor, which was the second most sold video game, trailing only Microsoft’s Minecraft. GTA5, launched in 2013, has sold in excess of 190 million units globally and has generated revenue exceeding $7.7 billion.
