Massive Attack, Fontaines D.C., and Young Fathers Release a Ceasefire EP For Palestine And Doctors Without Borders
To support Doctors Without Borders’ work in Gaza and the West Bank, three bands - Massive Attack, Fontaines D.C., and Young Fathers - have collaborated for a special vinyl record. The Ceasefire EP contains songs from each band and can be pre-ordered now. All the earnings will go to the charity, and the bands have also demanded a ceasefire and “a permanent end to Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestine”, as Fontaines D.C. said, while the death toll of Palestinians in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict reaches almost 20,000.
In a press release, Robert “3D” Del naja from Massive Attack said, “The appalling scenes of horror in Gaza, where innocent civilians, journalists, and doctors are killed in unthinkable numbers and hospitals and schools are reduced to rubble by bombs, have been worsened by more than ten weeks of utter political inaction. We admire the Doctors Without Borders medics who risk their lives to assist the innocent civilians in Gaza. The Ceasefire EP is a homage to them, and their amazing work in unimaginable conditions. We stand with the people of Palestine.” The 12" vinyl has artwork by Del Naja, which can be bought as a big signed print as well. The back cover of the EP shows the famous words of Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila, a Doctors Without Borders medic who wrote this message on a whiteboard in a hospital in Gaza before he was killed by an Israeli airstrike last month: “Whoever stays until the end will tell the story. We did what we could. Remember us.” In October, many prominent musicians and celebrities from the entertainment industry signed an open letter asking President Joe Biden to urge a cease-fire in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war. Some of those who appealed for a stop to the bombing were Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, Michael Stipe, Run the Jewels, and Devonté Hynes.
