Lil Nas X Enters Their Christian Phase After Lap Dancing The Devil
On Wednesday night (Nov. 29), the “Industry Baby” rapper posted a video of himself mouthing the words to a song that hasn’t been released yet. Wearing a denim skirt that reached his ankles and a T-shirt that read “if God doesn’t exist, then who’s laughing at us?,” Lil Nas performed a prayer in the new snippet. “Father stretch my hands/ The longest seems to be the lonely road,” he sang. “Help me with my plans/ Everything seems to go nowhere.”
At the end of the snippet, he asked for “angels” to help him “keep my faith” and made his intentions clear in the caption of the clip. “y’all mind if i enter my christian era,” he wrote to his fans.
However, releasing a song that sounds like gospel doesn’t change who Lil Nas is at his core — a master of trolling. When some X users started to attack the rapper for “mocking” Christianity, he made sure to put them in their place. “making christian music does not mean i can’t suck d–k no more,” he tweeted. “the two are not mutually exclusive. i am allowed to get on my knees for multiple reasons.” When one user tried to tell the singer that’s “not how Christianity works,” Nas was quick in his reply: “watch out everybody it’s the christianity correctional officer.”
While Lil Nas enjoyed messing with trolls and joking about his change in sound, he did get very honest with his audience, asking them to take his music more seriously. “y’all see everything i do as a gimmick. when in reality im just an artist expressing myself in different ways,” he tweeted. “whether im a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now christian y’all find a problem! y’all hate me because im fun cute and petite.”
This announcement may shock some fans who recall his “Montero” video, where he performs a lap dance for the devil. Shortly after, he launched his own shoe line with Nike, called “Satan Shoes”. He faced accusations of blasphemy from some fans and responded bluntly with a post on X, “i spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y’all preached would happen to me because i was gay. so i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves”.
The new song snippet comes during a quiet period for the “Old Town Road” rapper. His last single “Star Walkin’,” a collaboration with the online multiplayer game League of Legends, came out in September 2022, reaching No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 the next month.
Lil Nas knows that his fans miss hearing new music from him: In a tweet that imitated Spotify Wrapped posts from other artists, the rapper joked that he earned only 2 streams in 2023. “damn not releasing music really starting to take a toll on my career,” he joked.
