Sean John No Longer Available on Macy’s Website and Stores
An insider with ties to Macy’s has exclusively revealed to RadarOnline.com that the clothing brand Sean John, owned by rapper Diddy, will be discontinued from the retailer’s website and selected stores starting this month. The source said that the company has been assessing the performance of the label for some time and found that it was not as popular as it was in the late '90s and early '00s. They stressed that the “phase out” of the brand was not related to Cassie’s lawsuit and had been in the works since early fall 2023.
“Our brand portfolio is constantly under review, and the Sean John collection has begun to phase out of assortment since early fall 2023,” the source informed RadarOnline.com on Wednesday. They added that Diddy’s “products are being removed” and “won’t be available on the site,” and explained, “It’s the course of business.” They said that retail stores are “always evaluating” and deciding “what’s relevant” to consumers — and Sean John is no longer in demand.
Sources close to Diddy downplayed Macy’s decision, saying that the rapper’s brand is being “reimagined” but has “no official plans to re-released.” They also said that the news about the department store is “relevant because this is part of the process.” Diddy launched the clothing label in 1998. He sold 90% of the stake to Global Brands Group in 2016 but bought Sean John back in December 2021 for $7.5 million after the holding company went bankrupt.
Macy’s has been carrying Sean John since the beginning, with the music mogul signing an exclusive partnership with the department store in 2010.
