GUNS N' ROSES FRONTMAN AXL ROSE FACES SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS IN LAWSUIT
Model Sheila Kennedy filed a lawsuit in the state of New York, specifically accusing Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose of engaging in sexual assault and battery. The legal documents assert that Rose allegedly exploited his fame, status, and power in the music industry to gain access to and control Kennedy, ultimately subjecting her to violent sexual assault. In response, Alan S. Gutman, Rose's lawyer, strongly denied the incident, highlighting the seemingly strategic timing of the claims, just before the expiration of the New York Adult Survivors Act.
Kennedy's representative, Dr. Ann Olivarius, emphasized the potential significance of this legal action, characterizing it as a pivotal moment for the entire music industry. She stated that Kennedy's account mirrors a broader pattern of violence and sexual misconduct that has persistently existed within the industry, often concealed and normalized over decades.
Kennedy, identified as a former Penthouse "Pet of the Year," detailed the alleged assault, claiming it occurred in a hotel room in 1989. The complaint described a party where Rose, alongside other individuals, provided cocaine, champagne, and alcohol to guests. As the night unfolded, Kennedy found herself uncomfortable witnessing Rose's behavior with another model. According to the complaint, "Rose was aggressive in a way that appeared painful for the model. The encounter quickly became not just uncomfortable but disturbing”. Kennedy left the room with Rose’s acquaintance and suddenly heard, "objects being thrown and the sound of glass shattering” while Rose yelled at the other model. Kennedy then perceived rose “storming down the hallway” and when he saw her he screamed, "What the f--k are you doing here?" She alleged Rose grabbed her by her robe and "knocked her to the floor in the hallway” and "tied Kennedy's hands behind her back" with nearby panties and then "sexually assaulted Kennedy." Kennedy is claiming that the incident lead to profound and lasting emotional, physical, psychological, and financial consequences in her life. She disclosed a diagnosis of anxiety and depression attributed to the assault, alongside detrimental effects on her career and issues with physical and emotional intimacy.
