Minor Threat Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Out of Step With New EP of Outtakes
Minor Threat, the band that broke up after releasing their third and final EP Out of Step in 1983, have revealed Out of Step Outtakes, a new EP with three songs from the same sessions that produced Out of Step. The EP was mixed by Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara to mark the 40th anniversary of the original EP. Out of Step Outtakes will be available digitally and on clear 7" vinyl on December 1 via Dischord.
The first time Minor Threat recorded as a five-piece band was in January 1983, when Brian Baker switched to second guitar and Steve Hansgen joined as the bassist, at Inner Ear Studio. They recorded six new songs for Out of Step, as well as new versions of 1981’s “In My Eyes” and “Filler” with two guitars. They also made an instrumental track called “Addams Family.” The last one was used as an ending to the vinyl-only bonus track “Cashing In,” but the others were “never mixed and largely forgotten for over 35 years until the multitrack tapes were taken into the studio to be digitized in 2021.”
