Aaron Carter’s Family Sues Doctors and Pharmacies Over His Death by Opioids
The family of Aaron Carter, the pop star who died last year, are suing the doctors and pharmacies who prescribed him opioids.
Carter, who was 34 and the younger brother of Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, was found dead at his home in Lancaster, California in November. He had drowned in his bathtub after taking drugs.
According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the family claims that the doctors and Walgreens pharmacy were negligent and should have known that Carter had a history of substance abuse and mental health issues. They allege that the doctors and pharmacists gave him medications that impaired his judgment and contributed to his death.
The defendants have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
Carter's ex-fiancé Melanie Martin said in April that she was not satisfied with the autopsy report, which ruled his death as accidental. She questioned why he was wearing clothes in the bathtub and said she still missed him every day.
Nick Carter paid tribute to his brother online after his death, saying that he loved him and hoped he would find peace. He also started a fund for children's mental health in his memory.
